Rooney eyes United switch

FORMER England captain Wayne Rooney is in advanced talks to join American Major League Soccer club D.C. United from English Premier League side Everton.

The 32-year-old ex-Manchester United striker has a year remaining on his Everton contract but, according to a Washington Post report, is frustrated with his role at his boyhood club, where he returned last July.

D.C. United would have to pay a transfer fee or have Rooney negotiate a free move.
