BoQ CEO makes a ‘full recovery’

-

BANK of Queensland managing director Jon Sutton has shrugged off a surgical ailment that recently sidelined him for weeks, with the 180-branch lender saying he is fit to run the institution.

The pronouncement comes as Brisbane-based BoQ undergoes another top-level restructure, saying it was needed to help the bank continue with a niche-banking strategy, and faces a grilling at the Royal Commission.

Mr Sutton, 55, in early March had sent an internal email to staff saying he was convalescing after having had surgery two weeks earlier for a pre-existing medical condition.

He was not due to return until late March, the email said. While industry sources had debated whether this could impact his role, BoQ told the Gold Coast Bulletin that Mr Sutton “had made a full recovery”. BoQ declined to detail the ailment. Mr Sutton has been in the top job since 2014, previously having been chief operating officer of BoQ.
