MEGHAN FEELING THE JOY OF SUSSEX

-

WHEN Meghan Markle slips on her wedding ring next weekend she is likely to become the first person ever bestowed with the title the Duchess of Sussex.

As royal wedding fever grips the world, experts have said this is the most likely designation the actor will be given when she marries Prince Harry.

By tradition, the monarch tends to give titles to male members of the royal family as wedding gifts and the Queen has several vacant or suspended dukedoms.

Lucy Hume, the associate director of etiquette and peerage experts Debrett’s, told The Daily Telegraph the Duke of Sussex was “one of a few remaining extinct and dormant titles available’’.

Alternatively, Markle may also call herself Her Royal Highness Princess Henry of Wales. However, the 36-yearold cannot call herself Princess Meghan.

There has long been speculation the Queen will revive the Duke of Sussex title, with reports it might be bestowed on Prince Edward, the Queen’s youngest son, when he married back in 1999. He was instead named the Earl of Wessex.
