WOUNDED WALLABIES JUMPING INTO NEXT TEST

- BRENT O’NEILL @Brent_ONeill

MUDGEERABA will charge head first into their impossible NPL Women’s assignment against The Gap on the back of a fourth double-digit defeat.

The NPLW rookies were thumped 12-0 by Brisbane Roar at Sid Bigg Park yesterday, with premiership heavyweights The Gap their next opponent in a campaign rapidly spiralling out of control.

However, coach David Thompson said the group would approach the Round 14 challenge, at Walton Bridge Reserve at 6pm on Saturday, with as much enthusiasm as ever.

“It’s not hard (to stay upbeat). I don’t let my head drop, I don’t think it does any good … but if I can keep working with the girls we’ll get competitive,” he said.

“It’s not going to be an easy one (against The Gap) but there aren’t any easy games in this competition. They’re quite brave these girls, they’re trying to get themselves out of local competition — we know we could be beating up the local competition — and raise to this standard, which is a lot higher.

“The Gap are an excellent team but we’ll go and give it our best shout. We’ve already talked about that and we’ll be going in trying to give a good account of ourselves, much better than last time (a 17-0 loss in Round 1).”

The Wallabies trailed 7-0 against the Roar at halftime, with Thompson conceding his players were their own worst enemies.

“We created a lot of our own problems, especially playing out from the back giving the ball to them.”
