Swim star’s wife held over ‘theft’

-

SOCIALITE Sara Huegill – the publicist wife of Olympian Geoff Huegill – has been accused of stealing a pair of $2500 leather pants from a high-end fashion boutique.

The alleged theft occurred when the 34-year-old motherof-two was shopping at the Island Luxe store in Byron Bay on Sunday afternoon. Staff claim they saw Huegill put a pair of Bassike pants in a large handbag and walk out without paying.

Police will allege the store manager followed Huegill for about 200m before flagging down two mounted police officers to intercept the accused shoplifter. Huegill was arrested and taken to Byron Bay police station, where police say she declined to be formally interviewed and was fingerprinted before being charged with shoplifting.

She was released on self bail to appear at Byron Bay court next month.

When contacted yesterday Ms Huegill declined to comment. But her lawyers released a statement.

“Sara deeply regrets the incident and apologises unreservedly,” it said.
