Council firm on bus fines

RESIDENTS slapped with shock bus parking fines during the Commonwealth Games shouldn’t expect forgiveness from the Council any time soon.

Gold Coast City Council says they are yet to waive a single fine for parking in a bus zone. Despite issuing 950 fines for the offence over a two-week period, as opposed to just 85 in the year before, the council says they stand by their signage.

“Bus Zone signage was erected in accordance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and was enforced accordingly, with signs 60 metres apart,” a city spokesman said.
