CLASSROOM TO CAREER

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

AT the age of 13, Julia Marr’s father bought her a camera, and from there her love of film and photography was born.

Many years later, the 24-year-old has completed a Diploma of Screen and Media, and is well on her way to turning that passion into a career.

Ms Marr, a former TAFE Queensland student, first got the chance to show off her skills when she was hired by NEP Group, the host broadcaster of the Commonwealth Games.

“The opportunity to work with a world-renowned company such as NEP was a dream come true,” she said.

“I handled the colour correction for the netball and basketball games broadcast internationally for the duration of the Games.”

With workshops in camera control and outside broadcasting now completed, she added the practical experience through TAFE has been an enormous boost to her abilities.

“These training opportunities gave me both the knowledge and skills I needed to be job-ready, and the confidence to know I can, which I never could have achieved in just one year at another education provider like university.”
