Marlins fish for more points

-

TWEED United hope the confidence earned from becoming the first team this season to take points off the Gold Coast Knights will ignite their Premier League campaign.

Sitting equal-last heading into Sunday night’s Round 4 clash at Carrara, Tweed picked up their first point of 2018 with a 2-2 draw against a Knights side riding a three-game winning streak.

They were on track for a major upset when they led 2-1 in the dying stages, before a Morgan Saunders strike gave the hosts a share of the spoils.

Marlins coach Jason Buchanan said the draw was the result of meticulous preparation, believing it could prove the turning point.

“Hopefully now we can kick on. We knew we had a difficult four games to start the season,” Buchanan, whose troops tackled Burleigh, Surfers and Broadbeach in the first three rounds, said.

“We’ve got goals in us, it’s just conceding goals that’s been our issue but defensively (on Sunday) we were great. When we look back at it, (I’m) really pleased with the boys. To be feeling like we lost the game is a positive.

“We had a plan and worked on it all week at training. I’ve personally watched Knights on videos all week so we had a plan, there was no luck, and just ran out of steam right at the end.”

Mudgeeraba are now the only side without a point after falling 3-0 to Murwillumbah, with the Wallabies to host Tweed at 3pm on Sunday.
