A MOBILE unit is offering free breast screening for women at the Robina Community Centre from May 21 until July 5.

BreastScreen Queensland health promotion officer Julia Foreman has urged women to make time for the important check-up.

She said more than 32,000 women had attended their free screening mammogram at the BreastScreen Queensland Gold Coast Service last year.

“While that is great, currently just over half of local women in this high-risk age group attend the program within recommended timeframes,” she said.

“Having a breast screen every two years is the best way to find breast cancer early, when treatment can be most effective.

“With the help of early detection the five-year breast cancer survival rate has increased to 90 per cent.”

Permanent clinics are located at Helensvale, Southport and West Burleigh.

Mrs Foreman said some after-hours appointments were offered, including from 7.15am weekdays and Saturday mornings.

“Women in their 40s and those aged 75 and older can also attend a free breast screen,” she said.

Appointments can be made online or by phone.
