SURF FORECAST

POWERED BY COASTALWATCH

-

A continued run of S swell favours northern NSW coasts throughout the outlook period; initially hanging in around 2 to 3ft on Thursday and Friday ahead of a stronger, long-period S groundswell showing up at slow 3 to 4ft levels on Saturday. This pulse backs off again by Sunday ahead of a series of new S swells arriving over the course of next week. Expect smaller surf up to 2ft across exposed Queensland beaches, grading to 1 to 2ft or smaller elsewhere.

TODAY

Fading SE swell reinforced by new SSE windswell. Around 2 to 3ft+ exposed northern NSW breaks, grading to 1 to 2ft southern QLD exposed beaches and to 1ft or so inside the points and bays. WIND: Early lighter SSW 10 to 20 knots, tending SSE and easing during the day.

TOMORROW

SSE windswell around 1 to 3ft northern NSW south facing breaks, grading to 1 to 2ft at best across Queensland’s exposed beaches and near flat along the points and inside the bays. WIND: Light WSW to SW inshore, tending light and variable, then N to NE later.

SATURDAY

Long period S groundswell fills in. Potential for 3 to 4ft+ sets across northern NSW southern exposures with long waits between sets. Expect smaller 2 to 3ft sets elsewhere, wrapping at 2ft exposed Queensland beaches, grading to 1ft or so inside the points and bays. WIND: WSW to SSW 5 to 10 knots tending light SSE later.

SUNDAY

Mix of leftover S groundswell and background S swell. Sets to 2 to 3ft exposed northern NSW breaks. Grading to about 1 to 2ft across Queensland’s exposed beaches and near-flat inside the points and bays. WIND: Early lighter SW to SSW inshore tending S to SE 5 to 15 knots.

MONDAY

Potential for new S groundswell around 3 to 4ft+ along exposed northern NSW breaks, grading to 2 to 3ft southern Queensland beaches and smaller inside the points and bays. Revisions likely on Friday. WIND: Early light WSW to SSW tending light and variable during the afternoon.
