Apollo can land ‘em

GOLD Coast Premier League journeyman Tim Warren is adamant Surfers Paradise Apollo have the talent to turn around their indifferent earlyseason form, beginning with tonight’s battle with junior club Palm Beach.

A premiership winner with the Gold Coast Knights in 2017, the 30-year-old goalkeeper arrived at Surfers in the off-season after following long-time coach Alex Morrison to Lex Bell Oval.

It is the eighth Coast club for Warren, who first linked with Morrison during his playing days at Mudgeeraba.

With a host of new faces, 2017 semi finalists Apollo have so far fallen short of pre-season expectations, picking up one win and two draws to sit sixth after four rounds.

However, they can go some way towards rectifying that record against the Sharks, a club where Warren spent 10 of his formative years.

“We’ve got the players to turn it around, we’ll get it right,” Warren, who has also spent time at Southport, Merrimac, Magic United, Mudgeeraba and Musgrave, said.

“(Our form) has been not great, just conceding silly goals and not scoring enough. Defending set pieces has been a let-down.

“We’ve got five or six Asian players as well, which hasn’t helped with communication, but they’re great guys and good players. The key (to beating Palm Beach) is just playing our game and taking chances.

“We like to play out from the back and play through the midfield. We’ve got all the players to do well.”

Palm Beach are fifth with two wins and two losses.

Surfers are coming off a 1-1 draw at home to Nerang.

Kick-off is at 8.30pm at Palm Beach’s Mallawa Sports Complex.
