OPPOSITION TO MOTORWAY SPEED LIMIT BEING LOWERED
THE majority of Gold Coast residents responding to an online poll are opposed to speed limits being reduced on the Pacific Motorway.
Broadwater LNP MP David Crisafulli has detailed in State Parliament the results of a Facebook poll conducted by Burleigh MP Michael Hart.
Of the 16,000 respondents, fewer than 1000 wanted to see the speed limits permanently lowered to 100km/h, Mr Crisafulli said.
“More than 15,000 people have voted ‘no’ to reduce the speed limits on the M1 again. That message is clear. It is decisive,” he said.
The Broadwater MP said the 300 comments on his electorate Facebook page backed up the results of Mr Hart’s survey.
A resident had posted: “It is totally ridiculous to lower the limit.
“If anything, they should be focusing their attention on considerable upgrades.”
Another resident told the MP: “It’s totally unreliable data over a statistically irrelevant short period with change of traffic density, skewing the perceived results.”
