Hodge inspires upset
BRISBANE stormed home to thump Hawthorn by 56 points for their first AFL win this season, with former Hawk Luke Hodge instrumental in the upset.
Hodge’s young Lions looked like being blown off the park when Hawthorn kicked four easy goals in the first 10 minutes yesterday.
But the hosts rallied in the Gabba shootout, sprinting clear in the third term and showing no nerves despite eight losses to start the year to thump the powerhouse club 20.9 (129) to 11.7 (73).
It was the Lions’ first win over Hawthorn since 2009.
Brisbane coach Chris Fagan said: “It reinforces what you’re trying to do, that we’re on the right track.”
