Kuresa’s long-term Shearers project

- – CONNOR O’BRIEN

ORMEAU coach Julius Kuresa says it is a long-term project to have the Shearers competing at the pointy end of the Rugby League Gold Coast competition – and he’s in it for the long haul.

Kuresa’s side sunk to their fifth straight loss in a 40-12 scoreline against Runaway Bay on Saturday, having entered the break well in the contest trailing 20-12.

“The score blew out a bit there but I was happy with the way the boys competed there for most parts of the game,” Kuresa said.

“We’re showing glimpses of what we can do. We just need to collect all of those glimpses and make it more of an 80minute effort.”

Ormeau have been battered by a “horrendous injury toll” but remain upbeat about their progress.

“When you do lose, you do

take on some of those losing traits,” Kuresa said.

“Sometimes it affects your belief and your commitment and as coaching staff you want to try to keep the boys upbeat about what we’re trying to achieve and focusing on the good points of the games.

“This is a three-to-five year plan at Ormeau. They have got a great junior base and my responsibility is to ensure that those juniors come through to a strong senior club.”
