Fogarty sounds a warning to title rivals

-

BURLEIGH halfback Jamal Fogarty believes their ladderleading side is even more dangerous than the 2016 squad that won the Intrust Super Cup premiership.

In an ominous sign for title rivals, Fogarty spoke of the attacking options at their disposal after roaring to a 26-18 win over a strong Easts outfit on Saturday.

“I think we have got a lot more strike in this side compared to previous years,” the 24-year-old said, having played a central role in the 2016 triumph.

“We have just got more options, it doesn’t matter whether you go left or right at the ruck. We have all got a role to play and we have just got more strike weapons.”

Burleigh held a comfortable margin over the Tigers for the majority of the game with Fogarty marking his return from a six-week injury lay-off by scoring two first-half tries.

Four-pointers to Blake Leary, Toby McIntosh and Troy Leo soon after the break sealed the result. Leo now has 16 tries in as many ISC appearances.

The match was played at Cbus Super Stadium as a curtain-raiser to the Titans v Knights NRL clash and Fogarty welcomed the prospect of more such opportunities.

“It was good to play at a stadium with a quality pitch like that,” he said.

“It would be pretty good if they put a few more games at Cbus in the future whether it is us or (Tweed) Seagulls.

“But in saying that, Pizzey Park is our home ground and we love playing there in front of our fans at the club.”

Next up for Burleigh is a home match against Mackay on Saturday.
