Mixed results for Vikings, Young
NATHAN Young keeps being told he is approaching his prime as a rugby league prop.
“That’s what everyone seems to be saying,” the 24year-old laughs, not so certain.
“I guess compared to when you’re 18 or 19, everything now takes a bit more of a toll.
“I’m only 24 but you even notice it from when you were younger to now.”
Young moved from Rockhampton in November to change gears in his Intrust Super Cup pursuits, having made occasional outings for the Capras. He spent the pre-season training with Tweed Heads but has instead been lining up for Southport in the A-grade comp.
The boilermaker’s first real break for 2018 arrived in the form of a late call-up into the Gold Coast Vikings rep side that contested the Chairman’s Challenge at the weekend.
The Vikings were outplayed 26-12 by Brisbane on Friday night but struck back the next day, defeating Ipswich 34-12.
“We were a bit disappointed on Friday but we were pretty good against Ipswich,” he said.
