Punch part of ‘play fight’

-

A HOMELESS man who was punched in the head, cracking his skull and leaving him with concussion has spoken out in support of his attacker.

The Southport Magistrates Court was told the injury was sustained in a “play fight”.

In a bizarre turn of events the victim sent a message to the Southport Magistrates Court asking that Jason Heath Naumann not be given jail time.

“We do play fight from time to time,” the man’s statement read. “It’s just for fun, there is never an expression of violence between us.”

Naumann pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm for the fight on October 20 last year. Magistrate Ron Kilner sentenced him to 38 days jail – which Naumann has already served – and 18 months probation.

Defence lawyer Chris Rosser said the pair had known each other for about 30 years and it was a play fight which had gotten out of hand.
