ALEXANDRIA GREAT AT KARATE CONTEST

-

BENOWA local Alexandria Armour has been doing karate for the past 21 years.

So now at only 27, the trainer has been participating in the sport she loves for most of her life.

Over the weekend, Ms Armour received a bronze in the female 61kg kumite karate competition and a silver in the women’s team event.

Not only did she represent Australia, but one of her students Sennah Kilvington, 16, was also selected to represent Australia for the very first time, coming away with two gold medals.

“Going away and competing for your country is always an honour, but being able to share it with a student whom you coach full time and witnessing her succeed was a very proud and unforgettable moment,” she said.

“What I love about the sport is it allows me to consistently test my body in terms of fitness and purpose.

“It’s the only sport that uses both sides of your brain and requires you to be strong, but fast and you are constantly finding new ways to move more effectively. It’s addictive.”

She said a typical week of training includes skipping, HIIT, weights and karate specific technical sessions along with flexibility and mobility work.
