Cops to seek extradition
GOLD Coast detectives are expected in Sydney today to seek the extradition of a man allegedly involved in the abduction of a schoolboy from outside his family’s Mudgeeraba home.
The 12-year-old was walking from school to his family’s home on May 11 when a bag was placed over his head and he was bundled into a car.
He was found the next day in Grafton in the company of 53-year-old Zheng Jie Zhang, who has since been charged with six offences, including kidnapping for ransom.
Police claim that Zhang’s 20-year-old son, Yu Zhang, also known as Sunny, was involved in the abduction.
The 20-year-old on Tuesday voluntarily attended Cabramatta Police Station in Sydney’s southwest and was arrested, Queensland Police said. Gold Coast detectives were travelling to Sydney yesterday to seek his extradition to Queensland today.
