Main Beach is also suffering — we too need tourists to come here

-

MY, how things have changed. Keith Woods, assistant editor of the Bulletin, opines his view of The Spit, “keeping it as it is”, the “desperate need for a master plan” and cruise ship terminals (‘Spit is the wrong place for a cruise ship terminal’, GCB, 23/5/18).

Keith, it was a former Bulletin

editor who drove the push for development on The Spit in pages and pages of editorials in the Bulletin, who sneered at the “greenies”’ trying to stop anything, anything at all, on The Spit, who boasted quite openly that he “put Tom Tate in as Mayor” because he was pro development.

Yes, Broadbeach is suffering, and so is Main Beach. We too need tourists to come here. And do tell what a tourist would see in Broadbeach? Highrise and highrise and highrise.

At least if they get off at The Spit, whether by cruise ship or not, they will see the stunning Broadwater and its boats, yachts and bird life, a beautiful beach, a “gem” of a little village that is safe and friendly, the natural parks, walks and recreational areas that are planned through “dreary consultation meetings” and a much better representation of the lifestyle on the Gold Coast than Broadbeach.
