SURGEON EYES PRIME PROPERTY SALE

- QUENTIN TOD

EYE surgeon Darryl Gregor, focusing on the future of his five children, is selling a fivelevel Southport commercial property he built and has operated from for nearly 20 years.

The Eye Centre is at 2 Short St, on the corner of Marine Pde, and is home to the Eye and Laser Centre and the Cataract Care Clinic.

The property, owned via Gregor company Silverfields, also has Ramsay Healthcare and Monash IVF as major tenants.

It was purpose-built as a medical centre, at a cost of $8 million, on a 1996sq m site and bought for $1.4 million in 1995.

The centre, at the entrance to the Southport CBD, includes a three-theatre day surgery on the first floor, a cafe at ground level, and parking for 82 vehicles.

The building overlooks the Broadwater and its southern neighbour is the 11-level Seabank office tower.

Dr Gregor, who is in his mid-60s, said he had no intention of retiring but had decided it was a good time to sell The Eye Centre.

“My primary reason is to free the cash so that it can be distributed into investments that will help our children.”

Shaun Douglas, of Chesterton International (Qld), is marketing the property through an expressions-of-interest campaign.
