Free Sky News on regional TV

- JOHN ROLFE

SKY News is to be shown on free-to-air television in regional Australia for the first time.

WIN will launch a dedicated Sky News channel later this year in 29 markets across six states and the ACT.

The “Sky News on WIN” channel will contain a mix of live and time-shifted program highlights covering news, sport, weather and public affairs.

The agreement between WIN and Australian News Channel – wholly owned by News Corp Australia, the publisher of the Bulletin – will also see Sky News national affairs content shown in local news bulletins where relevant.

Sky News will have access to WIN News content for its news channels on Foxtel. WIN operates Australia’s largest regional news operation.

Australian News Channel (ANC) chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos said the agreement would showcase “the depth and breadth of the news, sports news, weather news and public affairs content available on our premium Sky News channels on Foxtel to even more Australians.”

Foxtel would remain the only place viewers could watch five live 24/7 Sky News and Fox Sports News channels, he said.
