WELL DONE TOMIC

-

WE all know one of the Gold Coast’s most intriguing and drama-prone sons Bernard Tomic makes this paper’s news pages as much as he does its sports pages.

But credit where it is due. After plunging outside the world’s top 200 and seemingly at a crossroads in his career and life, which included a brief reality TV stint, he is letting his tennis racquet do the talking again.

And the former child prodigy is doing it in typically unexpected Tomic style.

Just when most commentators were starting to right him off as a spent force, he is seemingly knuckling down and winning matches (eight of his past nine) on clay, his least favourite surface.

Even hard-working Brisbane-based pro John Millman tipped his hat to Tomic’s top effort to win three qualifying matches and make the French Open main draw.

It has set up a mouth-watering first round clash with fellow firebrand Aussie pro Nick Kyrgios in Paris tonight.

Regardless of the match outcome, it is heartening to see anybody pick themselves up off the canvas, Let’s hope, as Kyrigos likes to say, Tomic can ‘keep it rolling’.
