I AM
staggered that Tom Tate still claims 70 per cent of Gold Coasters want the light rail to go all the way to the airport (‘My way on the highway’, GCB. 23/5/18).
I challenge him to come down to Palm Beach and walk the 3km from Tallebudgera Creek to Currumbin bridge and find out just how many people are against it.
He would also see that practically no resumptions are possible with nearly 100 per cent units either side of the Gold Coast Hwy, car parking would be impossible, and we would be lucky to even have a footpath, let alone more than one lane each way for vehicular traffic.
The light rail may suit the northern sector, where more tourists are likely to utilise it. Why can’t they concentrate on the overdue upgrade of the M1 and the completion of the rail line to the border.
It makes more sense than worrying about more billions on a light rail, which is slower than a bus, and a cruise ship terminal which is shown to have many difficulties to come to fruition.
