Brimson the Titans main man ... for now

- EMMA GREENWOOD

ASH Taylor has thrown his support behind rookie Titans half AJ Brimson, saying his preference is to continue to partner with the young gun as Kane Elgey battles for a return to the top team.

Taylor and Brimson have formed a formidable combination in just three games together for the Gold Coast after coach Garth Brennan dropped Elgey to the Intrust Super Cup to regain form and confidence.

While the Titans have won just one of those three games – against Newcastle – they led at halftime against competition heavyweights Melbourne and the Roosters, largely on the back of strong games from the halves.

Taylor said he had quickly formed a comfortable partnership with Brimson and would like to see Brennan stick with the youngster this season.

“It’s a tough question. I love playing alongside both (Brimson and Elgey) but I’ve been playing some decent footy with AJ there, so if I were to pick (between) the two, I’d pick AJ,” Taylor said.

“I’m feeling comfortable in the last few weeks but I’d still feel that if Elgey was here.

“It’s just a form thing and that happens throughout the NRL period. Elgey’s doing great back at Tweed, he’s led them to the last three victories.”

Taylor said while Elgey and Brimson were fighting for a halves spot, he couldn’t assume he was automatically safe.
