Man killed in car fall

AN 84-year-old man has died in a Perth crash when he pressed the accelerator instead of the brake while helping to check the rear lights of a car.

The victim had been sitting in the car in a Beaconsfield driveway when he accidentally pressed the accelerator and reversed into a neighbour’s yard, falling from the vehicle and hitting his head.

He was rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital but died a short time later, while the man he was helping, aged in his 70s, also received minor injuries when the car struck his arm.
