Matt cops new blow

- RIKKI-LEE ARNOLD

THE Cowboys have copped yet another hit in what has been a disastrous 2018 after Matt Scott was found guilty of a shoulder charge and ruled out of tomorrow’s clash with Manly.

The North Queensland veteran – who was surprisingly overlooked for a place in the Maroons side this week – went to the judiciary last night to fight the charge that came out of his side’s loss to Melbourne.

However, he was unsuccessful in his bid to avoid a one-match ban.

Scott will now miss tomorrow’s showdown with the Sea Eagles in Sydney, which is a blow for the Cowboys who are already missing the likes of Gavin Cooper, Michael Morgan and Coen Hess to Origin.

While there is plenty of experience still in the side, including Scott’s co-captain Johnathan Thurston, the Cowboys can only afford three more losses this year if they are any chance of making the top eight.

Scott said he did everything he could to ensure it was not a dangerous tackle, but the judiciary saw otherwise.

“It’s disappointing,” he said. “Obviously it didn’t go the way we wanted it to.

“I’ve seen a lot of tackles in games recently that are a lot more dangerous and resulted in injury so it’s quite frustrating to be given a week for, in my opinion, a pretty innocuous tackle.

“It’s a fast game and there’s a lot of situations that you get yourself into some positions you don’t want to be in. I did as much as I could to make that situation not dangerous.”

Scott Bolton is also in doubt with injury.
