FUTURE SUNS KEY TO LYNCH

- TOM BOSWELL tom.boswell@news.com.au

TOM Lynch is still undecided on his future but has revealed the growth in Gold Coast’s youngest talent could hold the key to keeping the captain at the Suns. Lynch is confident he has overcome the knee injury that kept him out of the club’s past three games, declaring that he will be fit to play against Geelong in Gold Coast’s return to Metricon Stadium on Saturday. The 25-year-old key forward used the team’s break in the week leading up to last week’s bye to return home to see family in Victoria where clubs including Richmond and Hawthorn are eager to sign the free agent for 2019 and beyond. Lynch said he didn’t use the time to mull over his future following a disruptive first half of the season spent largely on the road.

SUNS defender Steven May has sent a cheeky barb at former teammate Gary Ablett, suggesting the inaugural Gold Coast captain wasn’t a danger going in to Saturday’s clash.

Ablett is poised to play at Metricon for the first time since leaving Gold Coast.

May has been playing on a variety of different size players in 2018, taking on the likes of Robbie Gray in China in Round 9, while Rory Thompson has matched up against the key forwards.

The 26-year-old said he would relish coming up against Ablett if the man known as the ‘Little Master’ moved towards goal.

But May suggested Ablett wouldn’t be a concern for the Suns on the back of his recent fluctuating form.

“I’d love to play on Gaz for a bit but (Patrick) Dangerfield is probably more dangerous at the moment,” May said.

“He won’t like hearing that, Gaz.

“Gaz used to joke with me at training that he would love to have me in the goal square one-on-one. It could happen this week. We will see, it should be a bit of fun.”
