Man jailed after sixth DV breach

-

A GOLD Coast man has been jailed for pushing his partner and wrestling her 13-year-old son to the ground when he stepped in to protect her.

It was the sixth time the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had breached a domestic violence order in less than three years.

The man, 45, only stopped attacking the teenager when his 15-year-old brother stepped in and the woman’s 11-year-old daughter called police. He followed his partner to the front yard and slapped her repeatedly on the thigh, the Southport Magistrates Court heard yesterday. The violence stopped when police arrived. Magistrate Gary Finger sentenced the man to 12 months prison with a parole release date of September 30. Despite previously breaking numerous domestic violence orders, the woman allowed her partner to be at the home as long as he did not drink.

When she arrived home from work this week, he was heavily intoxicated and an argument started.

Defence lawyer Danielle Hurda, of Bamberry Lawyers, said the man had joined Alcoholics Anonymous to try and stop his drinking.

Mr Finger said the man’s behaviour was “nothing short of appalling”. He also extended the domestic violence order, which was to end this year, until 2023.
