Marriage in heaven

-

THE council is poised to tick off on a new wedding venue in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

But the operators, given the facility is near farm land and protected conservation areas in the Numinbah Valley, will not be able to set off fireworks for guests.

At a planning committee, councillors supported the application for a function facility in Pocket Road.

Weddings will be held up to three times a week, between 7am-10pm, on a cleared area of 350sq m near a man-made lake. Portable structures will be set up and waste later removed.

The application prompted 10 objections with most of those alerting council to fireworks being detonated on site during December last year.

“The submissions raised concerns that the fireworks adversely impact on the rural amenity, spook livestock and native fauna and pose a significant bushfire threat,” an officer’s report said.

Council officers recommended a ban on fireworks and limited the number of guests to 150 to reduce traffic concerns.
