Sharks snap up ex-Suns player Hall

- TOM BOSWELL

FORMER Suns player Josh Hall is poised to make a shock return to Gold Coast football against the club he played in the AFL with.

Hall has signed with the Southport Sharks NEAFL side for the rest of the season, adding another chapter to an already intriguing career that has included stints in Australian rules, rugby league and athletics.

“He is a good late acquisition,” Sharks football manager Jarrod Field said.

The 29-year-old former high jump national champion played seven AFL games with the Gold Coast Suns between 2012 and 2015 before signing a two-year deal with NRL club Penrith Panthers.

Hall didn’t record an NRL cap and returned home to Townsville after just a year after he and partner Rhiannon welcomed daughter Maggie.

He spent time playing with Intrust Super Cup side Townsville Blackhawks in 2017 before shifting back to Australian rules via the aptly named Northern Beaches Suns this year.

Hall will arrive on the Coast on Thursday and Field said there was a strong chance he could play in the Round 9 game against his old club Gold Coast. Hall will fly in and out from Townsville between games while searching for work fulltime on the Coast.
