Easing SSE groundswel­l settles under light morning winds. Scope for a steep rise in S swell Thursday into Friday preceding a larger solid SSE push of surf off an East Coast Low Saturday and extending into Sunday.

TODAY

Varied S wind swell depending on exposure. Small generally with side shore 2 to 3ft waves on exposed northern NSW breaks. Occasional 1ft+ across Queensland’s exposed beaches, tending near flat inside the points and bays. WIND: Early SSW 10 to 20 knots, tending lighter WSW in afternoon.

TOMORROW

Possible increase in steep S swell as ECL develops off NSW. Varied S swell wrap, potential to rise up 4 to 5ft exposed northern NSW breaks, grading to 2 to 3ft+ southern QLD exposed beaches and smaller inside the points and bays. WIND: Early SW 10 to 15 knots, tending S 10 to 15 knots during the day.

SATURDAY

Combined S and SE swell. Mid period SSE swell added to existing steep angled S windswell. Rising up around 4 to 6ft+ northern NSW south facing breaks. Tending 3 to 5ft across Queensland beaches with possible larger sets on top south exposures. WIND: S 10 to 20 knots.

SUNDAY

Combinatio­n of ECL swells, sets fill in further from SE. Exposed northern NSW beaches ranging 4 to 6ft+ sets, grading to 3 to 4ft southern Queensland’s and smaller inside the points and bays. WIND: Early light SSW 5 to 10 knots tending SE later.
