Anderson pushes case for Rangers

-

RUNAWAY Bay centre Jamie Anderson (pictured) has enhanced his case for a Queensland Rangers call-up with a two-try effort in the State Carnival at Owen Park in Southport.

Anderson’s double helped South East Queensland to a 38-24 win over Northern Queensland on Saturday. That result came despite the hosts trailing 18-16 at half-time.

The side though fell 36-4 to eventual champions the Brisbane Poinsettias yesterday.

“Personally I didn’t think the scoreline reflected the game,” SEQ coach Scott Cooke said.

“It was a very tough game, they were just a little bit too classy in the end.”

SEQ were captained by Currumbin halfback Phil Ramage, who was typically controlled with his direction, while Ayden Lee (Tugun) and Rory Lillis (Tweed Heads) were other players to push their case.

In better news, SEQ women’s side were crowned state champions after defeating Central Queensland 6-0 on Friday and Northern Queensland 28-0 yesterday.

SEQ player Kazzia Lammon was named player of the tournament.
