Support for tower
THE Gold Coast City Council planning committee has approved the building of a communications tower in Southport.
The application for the tower came after the committee received 14 submissions. It was yesterday passed with unanimous support.
Though he said concerns from Southport residents had been taken into account, Councillor Cameron Caldwell said he thought the plans would be approved.
“It received a strong endorsement at committee level, and is moving towards the same at the full council,” Cr Caldwell said.
The 31.5-metre tower, planned for Eleanor Perkin’s Park in Southport, had previously raised concerns among parents and teachers due to its proximity to Southport State School.
The full council meeting to confirm the tower will take place next week.
