Remand for kidnap rap

-

A MAN charged over the kidnapping of a 12-year-old boy from outside his Gold Coast home will remain inside the Southport Watchhouse until at least August.

It is alleged a mask was placed over the boy’s face and his hands bound as he was bundled into a Jeep before being driven to northern New South Wales during the horrifying ordeal last month.

Yu “Sunny” Zhang, 20, was extradited to Queensland from Sydney last month.

Zhang was charged with two counts of extortion and one count each of torture, deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm and kidnapping for ransom.

His father, Zheng Jie Zhang, 53, has been charged with six offences including kidnapping for ransom.

Yesterday, the younger Zhang’s matter was adjourned until August 28 after a brief mention in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday.
