Jailed over smuggling
A VICTORIAN man has been jailed for at least three years over his role in a people smuggling syndicate that helped an Iraqi family come to Australia by boat from Indonesia.
Abbas Allami, 40, was yesterday jailed for six years, with a minimum of three years and three months, for aggravated people smuggling after he helped a family of six come to Australia. Allami maintains his innocence despite a Victoria County Court jury finding him guilty in June 2017.
Allami acted as a conduit between the family and smugglers.
