BROBEN RETURNS TO DIVING

- TOM BOSWELL

OLYMPIAN Brittany Broben has made a stunning return to diving nearly two years after shoulder problems forced her into retirement.

The 22-year-old Gold Coaster, who won silver in the 10m platform at the 2012 London Olympics, has revealed she broke down last month in the aftermath of the Commonwealth Games she missed out on competing in due to her injuries.

“After undergoing three shoulder surgeries over the last few years I hung up my togs and walked away after 2016,” Broben said in an emotional message to fans on social media.

“I thought I was OK with how my career had ended as I felt my body was screaming enough is enough. I swam, I ran and I cycled for just over a year, as the athlete in me wasn’t ready to stop training.

“A few weeks ago I broke down and I missed chasing my dreams on the platform.

“I went back to the doctor to have my shoulder checked and he told me I was in pretty good condition, he also said divers have to be a little bit crazy in the first place.”

Broben entered the world of triathlon following her retirement from diving.
