Coast four in Heelers

-

FOUR Gold Coast players have been selected for the Queensland Country Heelers touring squad as the representative rugby season reaches a climax.

The Heelers list was selected after the Queensland Country Championships in Townsville at the weekend, during which South Queensland had one win and one loss.

The big winners from the Gold Coast’s nine players that featured up north were Surfers Paradise centre Jesse Mcgilvary, Coolangatta Tweed forward Mitch Planten and Helensvale brothers Sean and Jack Finigan.

All four are familiar faces in the representative scene and there could have been a third Finigan in the 26-man squad if not for oldest brother Steven’s work commitments ruling him out of the state titles.

South Queensland mentor Stu Beakey will act as assistant coach of the side.

The Heelers play two games in New Zealand – against Ellesmere on June 25 and North Canterbury on June 27 – before their showpiece Battle of the Borders event against NSW Country at Goondiwindi on June 30.
