LOCALS HONOURED
IT is great to see so many communityminded Gold Coasters recognised in the 2018 Queen’s Honours.
Often the good deeds and selfless acts go unnoticed, but at this time each year we — as a community and nation — celebrate those who give back.
From surf lifesaving stalwarts, long-time charity volunteers to medical professionals and talented artists, the Gold Coast is blessed to have amazing people.
It shows what is really at the heart of our city — a community of people who really care, about the Gold Coast and each other.
This year, six Gold Coasters were awarded an OAM: Medal of the Order of Australia, while five Northern NSW locals received the honour.
The Governor-General and Chancellor of the Order of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) said all recipients were commited and dedicated role models.
“On behalf of all Australians, I thank them for their contributions. We are a stronger, safer and more caring nation because of them,” he said.
