Probe over war crimes

HAVING a separate chain of command for the Special Air Services Regiment operating in Afghanistan was in retrospect “possibly a mistake”, the Australian Defence Association told an inquiry.

There are allegations, raised in a defence inquiry report, that soldiers in the elite group may have committed war crimes in Afghanistan.

ADA spokesman Neil James says for the first time at war, the SAS in Afghanistan did not fall under the command of the local Australian force commander.
