Bulls show off future

-

NERANG have provided a promising glimpse of rugby union’s future on the Gold Coast by taking out the Brisbane under-17 premiership.

With two under-17 seasons spread across 2018 to cater for the mid-year exit of players to Associated Private Schools programs, the Bulls on Sunday clinched the first lot of silverware with a 21-5 win over North Brisbane Eagles at Wynnum.

Captain and openside flanker Nicholas Harrex was named player of the match.

The team comprised of 27 players from three clubs – 18 from Nerang, five from Bond Pirates and four from Surfers.

“It’s two years in the making,” team manager Dion Lemming said.

“Each year we put the call out and we just don’t get enough and this year we managed to get heaps which was fantastic. There actually was going to be no competition for us this year again but BJRU came to the party, we put an idea to them to combine 16s and 17s and they said yeah OK, let’s do that.”
