Weller up for battle of revival

LACHIE Weller has put his hand up to lead Gold Coast’s revival but if it goes to plan you might not even notice him.

Back-to-back spankings have shone the spotlight on the franchise and where its future lies in the AFL.

But the 22-year-old midfielder, who arrived from Fremantle this season, has welcomed the challenge as he aims to lead the way behind the scenes at his new club.

“It’s not like we go out there and say ‘I’m not going to try today’,” he said.

“But our contest hasn’t been good enough and I have a big role in turning this around and I want that responsibility, want to make a difference.

“It’s not really about the touches you get – it’s more ... behind closed doors.”
