Alley the final destination in series

-

THE Queensland Championship Circuit is set to wrap this weekend at the annual Alley Classic on the Gold Coast.

Event officials are keeping a close eye on the weekend’s forecast for the event that calls Currumbin Alley home.

It is hoped that an improvement in swell expectations will allow some of Queensland’s best open men and women battle it out at the iconic Currumbin Alley point break, or one of southern Gold Coast’s surrounding beach breaks.

“The level of surfing from our competitors in the first two QCC events has been better than ever, we’re all looking forward to another great event this weekend and are stoked to see the girls surfing the Alley,” Surfing Queensland chief executive Adam Yates said.

Notable names to battle it out in the series finale include 2018 current ratings leader Lincoln Taylor (North Stradbroke), 2017 QCC series winner Thomas Woods (Burleigh Waters), Sunshine Coast young gun Noah Stocca (Peregian Beach), 2017 Queensland junior women’s champion Amber Dods (Sunrise Beach) and local wildcard Jade Wheatley (Currumbin).

The event will see some of the state’s best female surfers competing alongside the best males for the first time, with the addition of the Open Women’s division.
