-

THE Gold Coast Cougars have booked a ticket to August’s Little League Baseball World Series in the US after winning the Australian titles in Lismore.

Led by pitcher Oscar Hyde, the Cougars thumped the Adelaide Seahawks 11-0 in yesterday’s gold medal game to earn a spot at the World Series in Pennsylvania from August 16-26. In four innings on the mound, Hyde punched out nine Seahawks and did not allow a hit as he enjoyed an early 4-0 lead.

Jake Calver’s two-run single opened the scoring and it was 6-0 when Zach Smith landed a two-run single of his own.

William Baker then put the nail in the coffin, with his three-run homer extending the lead to 10-0 in the bottom of the third.

Baker finished with four runs batted in, while Calver drove in three.
