CHILL WIND BLOWING IN:

TEMPERATURES ABOUT TO PLUNGE ON COAST

- BRITT RAMSEY britt.ramsey@news.com.au

IF YOU thought it was difficult getting out from under the doona this morning – prepare yourself for what’s to come.

Gold Coasters are about to shiver through some uncomfortably low temperatures in the next seven days.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s Jim Richardson said the Gold Coast can expect temperatures as low as four, with surrounding suburbs to feel more of a bite.

“In Nerang on Thursday it’ll get down to 7, Friday and Saturday both 5 and Sunday 4,” he said.

“For Surfers Paradise it’ll be slightly above with eights leading into the weekend and 4 on Monday.

“Beaudesert will drop to one degree on Monday, with a chance of morning frost with the cooler temperatures.”

According to the Bureau, the average minimum in Coolangatta and Surfers Paradise for June is 11, for Beaudesert it is eight.

“These temperatures we’re predicting are significantly below average,” he said.

Weatherzone senior meteorologist Jacob Cronje said Nerang will be knocking on the door of the coldest temperature the agency has ever recorded.

“The coldest temperature recorded in Nerang is from back in 2007, it was down to 2.5. It dropped to 3.8 across other parts of the Gold Coast in 2004,” he said.

“The average temperature for Nerang at this time of year is 13, but we’re expecting significantly colder numbers – down to five degrees during the week, three on Sunday.

“Elsewhere, the average is also 13 – but we’ll hit near average, perhaps a little below.”

Amelia Stone said she still pulls herself out of bed in the morning or makes time in the afternoon to take her French Bulldog Ava for a walk

“It’s a lot colder these days, and it’s darker for longer – but for me, I find it’s still important to get out and not be lazy, just stick to the routine” she said. “It’s just a matter of getting rugged up.”
