CHAS’S CLASSY PROGRESS
BEFORE Ormeau teenager Chas Henry (above, fourth from right) graduated from the police-run mentorship program Project Booyah, he was “doing nothing with his life”.
Chas, 16, said in his graduation speech at the Ormeau Community Centre on June 6 that all he did was “play video games and get into trouble”. “I had no job, I wasn’t going anywhere,” he said.
Now all that has changed after Chas and nine other boys celebrated their graduation from the 17-week leadership program Project Booyah, gaining a Certificate II in Hospitality and a number of job prospects in the works.
Now Chas and his mates have the world at their feet.
Project Booyah is a policerun leadership and mentor program which uses adventure based learning, problem solving exercises, resilience training, policing strategies and family-inclusive principles to help young people make better life choices.
