MORE MOANING

SURFERS Paradise has spent years trying to decide exactly what the beating heart of tourism is. Does it cling to claiming to be family friendly or does it give itself over to the raunch and tackiness of a night strip?

Surfers has two economies – day and night. Until mid-evening it is about families. But there is a witching hour when it becomes all about clubs, bars and kebabs. Can it be both? It is not a red-light district, so yes. Both sides have their supporters but aside from the occasional blow-up, for example when the pop-up pissoir was installed, the two economies seem to work side by side. It is ridiculous therefore that some whinger complained about slightly risque promotional photos in an alley outside a nightclub, which had to remove them. The posters were much tamer than the material kids view online.
