BOND AND EASTS IN A BATTLE FOR THE AGES

- CONNOR O’BRIEN connor.obrien@news.com.au

THE biggest game of the Queensland Premier Rugby season has arrived.

Bond University’s 29-19 loss to University of Queensland on Saturday has added extra weight to their Round 13 away game against Easts.

Six points behind Easts, the Bullsharks are the nearest threat to the current top four. A win at CP Bottomley Park and their finals hopes are thriving – but a defeat could push them to the brink, more than two games off the pace.

“If they were to beat us, it would really separate the top four from the rest of the table so it’s a massive game,” said Bond director of rugby Sean Hedger. “Everyone was talking about it straightaway and forgetting about the game that was.”

Scrummaging and defence underpinned UQ’s win.

“UQ’s defensive line was easily the best that we have faced this season,” Hedger said. “The big lesson we have got to learn out of that is staying a little bit more patient because if we were to make the finals you have got to face those disciplined defences all the time.”
