Cop injured during Surfers brawl
A MAN has been released on bail after being charged with assaulting a police officer during a drunken scuffle in front of Hollywood Showgirls. Zaidyn Owen, 21, appeared in Southport Magistrates Court yesterday charged with serious assault.
The court heard Owen was involved in a confrontation on Orchid Ave in Surfers Paradise before up to six police intervened in the early hours of Sunday morning. A scuffle ensued when Owen allegedly resisted arrest and an officer was injured as the pair fell to the ground on Orchid Ave.
Defence lawyer Brianna Edwards said Owen, a labourer, denies punching a man “multiple times” before police stepped in.
Magistrate Mark Howden granted Owen bail with the condition he keep out of the Surfers Paradise Safe Night Precinct.
