- TOM BOSWELL @TomBoswellGCB

THE world’s largest-ever breeder bonus could see connections of next year’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic pocket nearly double the $1.2 million traditionally on offer.

Gold Coast-based breeding and racing company Aquis have pledged to offer $1 million to any progeny, conceived in 2018, of The Mission who wins a 2YO Group 1 in Australia, the $2,000,000 Magic Millions 2YO Classic at Aquis Park or the $2,000,000 Inglis 2YO Millennium at Warwick Farm.

It means winners of the 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast could pocket $2,525,000 if the horse is owned by all females given the $325,000 women’s bonus already on offer.

Aquis CEO Shane McGrath said the company would also donate 10 per cent of all bonus payouts to industry-related charities.

“It is important to acknowledge that we in the racing industry are all part of a wider community and we have an obligation to look after those less fortunate than ourselves,” McGrath said.

“At Aquis we are grateful to be part of a thriving industry that is in a position to give generously to those in need, whether that be improving services within our local community, supporting our farmers in times of drought, helping to improve support networks for stud and stable staff, or ensuring that our much-loved racehorses are given the opportunity to be retrained and rehomed once they retire from racing.”

The Mission, based at Aquis’ Canungra base, is the first Champion 2YO to retire to stud in Queensland in over a decade.

Aquis enjoyed success at the 2018 Magic Millions with Loretta Fung, the wife of company owner Tony Fung, a part-owner in 2YO Classic winner Sunlight.

Aquis will also offer bonuses ranging from $25,000 to $500,000 if progeny of The Mission can win at various levels of racing.

A $500,000 bonus will be awarded to any who can win a 2YO Group 2 race in Australia while $300,000 will be up for grabs to those who can win a 2YO Group 3.

A win at a 2YO listed or Restricted Listed race will garner $250,000 and a Saturday metropolitan victory will be met with a $100,000 prize.

Any progeny who can win at any of the mentioned levels outside of Australia will get a $100,000 bonus. A midweek metropolitan winner will get $50,000 while $25,000 will be given to those who can win a provincial or country 2YO race in Australia or any other race outside of the country.
